Our Mission Evolves
Our bodies love to move — and life feels better when we do. Pearl Movement is not a physio program or another set of exercise drills. It’s an approach to movement and wellbeing, born from research with older adults, and designed for later life: gentle, creative, and flexible.
Pearl is about moving to music, finding flow, and reconnecting with what feels good in your body. It supports health in the fullest sense — body, mind, and spirit. Yes, movement is essential for energy, posture, and confidence, but equally important are the things that lift us: laughter, music, creativity, and moments of connection.
Where most programs stop at “exercise,” Pearl goes further. We create space for movement to be playful, expressive, and deeply personal — a source of joy as much as wellbeing.
That’s the heart of Pearl: movement that strengthens the body, lifts the spirit, and celebrates the art of living well.
Who We Are
Kia ora, I’m Dr Francine Hills — a dance practitioner, researcher, and advocate for dancing into health.
My work is dedicated to making movement accessible, meaningful, and most of all ...FUN!
My research has and continues to be focused on dancing in later life. Findings from my thesis pointed strongly to the integral role of identity in fuelling our lives and shaping how we define what it means to live well — at any age.
This platform is the next step in that journey and I am super excited to be embarking on it with my dear friend and collaborator Jo Sanderson.
Together we have dreamed up PEARL and here we are... to celebrate movement, connection, creativity, and the colourful stories of everyday life.
